Alumni Council

Battier Scholars don’t just take charge in
school—they take charge in life.
In 2025, The Battier Take Charge Foundation launched the Take Charge Alumni Council as a platform for Battier Scholars who have graduated from college to maximize their impact on their communities and the world around them. Through this council, Battier Scholars alumni will design and execute events and initiatives that engage and empower current students while making a difference locally and beyond. The council plays a vital role in BTCF’s mission to impact one million lives.
To kick things off, select Battier Scholars alumni gathered for a three-day brainstorming retreat in Charlotte, North Carolina. From personality tests to team-building activities to collaborative brainstorming sessions, each day was intentionally designed to help alumni reflect on their strengths, align with their values, and explore how they can create lasting impact.
The retreat culminated in a high-energy pitch competition to determine the council’s first-year priorities and executive leadership. Guided by BTCF’s six core values—authenticity, impact, growth, collaboration, empowerment, and scrappiness—the council split into groups to develop and present their ideas. After thoughtful deliberations, a judging panel made up of the BTCF executive team and our incredible partners at KPMG announced the Take Charge Alumni Council’s inaugural executive board:
- Chair: Julio Burgos
- Secretary: Lauren Tarr
- Treasurer: Antonio Menarge
- Staff Liaison: Malik Gibbs-Ochoa

With the guidance and generosity of KPMG, the Take Charge Alumni Council is ready to hit the ground running. Their first initiatives will be rolling out soon—and we can’t wait to share the impact they’ll make. Stay tuned!
